About
A unique family company; providing home-style & traditional dishes, good service and a comfortable atmosphere is of the utmost importance to us.
Eldstó began as a pottery/ceramic workshop in a garage in 1999 but moved to this location in 2004.
This building was not originally built for a restaurant, but rather for the operations of the state owned “Póstur og Sími” – the telecommunications and postal service provider, which operated from 1935-1998.
From 2004, Eldstó was a only a café. In 2009 it expanded to become a restaurant and has since grown beyond expectations; a family owned and operated restaurant, café and ceramic art gallery.
The air smells of food and coffee. The music hums in the background. Walls are decked with paintings by G Helga and shelves, showcasing Thor and Helga’s handcrafted pottery. The overall theme of ceramic art and cozy atmosphere is all throughout, as was the vision in the beginning.
It’s an uncommon phenomenon in Iceland, to have food, drink, oil paintings and pottery all created “in house”! Enjoy a tea brewed in a handmade teapot or latte art in a handmade latte cup. Indulge in the traditional dish of Icelandic lamb soup, locally sourced lamb in a locally handmade bowl!
